My provider completed 6 injections (3 on each side) of a patient's neck. The provider ordered CPT 20551 (Injection(s); single tendon origin/insertion) for each injection, so 6 times. Is anyone able to clarify if the CPT code is suppose to be billed per injection site (6 in this case) or per tendon (2 in this case)?
Here is the procedure note:
Procedure: After obtaining informed consent. The area to be injected was sterilely prepped. The areas in blue in the diagram above were injected with 12.5% sterile dextrose for injection. The patient had origins and insertions of tendons injected to improve joint stabilization and the joint was injected to improve healing. The patient tolerated the procedure well.
