Can someone tell me if you need to learn General Equivalence Mapping (GEMs) for the test.

I'm sorry...

Yes, I am speaking of the CPC. I want to begin studying for the CPC. I've been working for a few years and want to begin studying and not sure where to begin.

I bought a textbook and it is start discussing the GEM's crosswalk from ICD9 to ICD10, as well as from ICD10 back to ICD9.

I don't want to be studying anything needlessly. Just want to narrow down the specifics.

Mostly focus on I-9 guidelines, CPT and HCPCS guidelines and know how to read records accurately and swiftly. You get to use the I-9, CPT, and HCPCS books in the exam so Tab and mark them up as you need.

Thanks,

Does anyone know when the cut-off for the ICD9 coding is for the exam.

Does the current exam have both I9 and I10 in them.

This year's test only has the ICD-9. Beginning January 2016, the test will have the ICD-10. After passing the test this year, you will most likely need to take the ICD-10 assessment, which is done from the comfort of your own home and is only 75 questions.
