Wiki throat clearing dx code

Would dx code R09.82 be best for using if note just states throat clearing as dx , since nothing mentioned about R09.89 for feeling of foreign body sensation or choking sensation?

R09.82 is for postnasal drip - you can't assign that unless that was the symptom and/or that's what the provider documented. R09.89 is an 'other specified' code which appropriate for symptoms that don't have a more specific code - it does not require that the patient have one of the symptoms listed under it in ICD-10 - those are just common symptoms that are classified to this code, not a complete list.

I would assign R09.89 for 'throat clearing' if you have no more specific information in the record or are not able to query the provider for additional information.
