Pt has Common Femoral occlusion presumably from embolus from left heart thrombus.

MD performs thrombectomy 1st, but after several passes there is still clot there. He then places a stent to entrap the residual thrombus.

Would this scenario be codes as
37184
37236 (since it's for thrombosis and not stenosis)

or 37226 and 37186 (which seems wrong to me)

I don't need help coding the whole report just this specific scenario.

Thanks!!!!1

  • 37184 – Mechanical thrombectomy (CFA, initial).
  • 37236 – Stent placement (CFA, initial artery). No bundling issues here — these two can be reported together with proper documentation that shows:
    • Thrombectomy was attempted first.
    • Stent was placed secondarily to manage residual thrombus

Note: 37226 is specifically for stenting due to stenosis in the iliac artery, and the procedure here involves the common femoral artery (CFA), not the iliac.
