Hello,
The providers at my clinic recently started doing telephone encounters (codes 99441-99443). As part of these phone encounters, they often perform counseling for tobacco cessation. Can we bill 99406-99407 as services performed over the phone?
The book specifies that the Counseling Risk Factor Reduction services must be performed face-to-face, but it does not have the same specifications for the behavior change intervention codes.
