Is a total talus replacement included in a total ankle replacement Or should each procedure be billed separately?
The provider is billing CPT Code 27702 and CPT Code 27899-51.

1. Start with NCCI edits and manual. (if the payer follows NCCI). However if using unlisted, there would be no edit.
2. Check the AAOS Complete Global Service Data for Orthopedics books
3. Verify CPT descriptions of each.
4. Check coding clinic and CPT Assistant for guidance.
5. Research what pieces are part of the implants for a TAA versus what a total talus is.
6. Verify was it definitely a total talus or only the piece that goes with the TAA?
