Total Hip Replacement for Femoral Neck Fractures

Hello group,

My physician is finding it more and more appropriate to correct a femoral neck fracture with a total hip prosthesis. The procedure code 27236 includes correction by placement of a prosthesis. It doesn't specify if this prosthesis is a hemi or a total. I have always been of the mindset that the THA (27130) is only for osteoarthritis or other systemic bone disorders. Is that everyone else's thought process? If so would it be appropriate to bill the 27236 with a modifier 22 to indicate addition time/work done when using a total hip prosthesis or am I to assume that because the description of code 27236 includes a prosthesis it wouldn't matter if it was a hem or a total replacement?

I look forward to everyone's feedback.

Thank you.
