Does anyone know how to code this procedure? My trauma surgeon did the following:

Diagnostic Bronch (31622)
Median Sternotomy (21750)
Resection of trachea-innominate fistula
Primary Anastomosis of innominate artery
Closure of Trach (31820)
CVC line (36556)

I can not figure out how the heck to code this. Any ideas?!

Sorry. 43305 is going in through the neck. My surgeon went in through the rib cage. 43312... Not sure if this encompasses everything I am looking for, but I will for sure ask my surgeon. I read an article on this procedure from the Cleavland Clinic, and it was great. I get the impression this is not a common procedure.
Thank you for your help!!!!

I'm confused - codes 43305 and 43312 are for fistulas of the esophagus. Didn't you say this was between the trachea and innominate artery?? I definitely don't think that is a common thing!

I think you need to use an unlisted code. For RVUs and pricing, it may be comparable to code 35216.

I've never coded this myself so I'm just guessing without seeing the note.

Lisi,

Thank you so much for your advise. I will ask my surgeon today about this. Hopefully I can get this sent out soon! THANKS again! ;)
