Can someone advise? Doctor performed 31600 inpatient in hospital and this procedure has no global period. How should the follow up visit in the office be coded. This patient has never been seen the office before the tracheostomy. Would the E/M code be (a new patient e.g. 99203 or an established patient visit - e.g. 99213??

Established patient

He is an established patient because the physician performed a face-to-face service within the last three years (the tracheostomy).

Hope that helps.
