Good morning. I was looking for clarification regarding TCM billing (99495 and 99496) in regards to the requirement of contact with the patient within 2 business days post discharge. If no telephone or email contact was made within 2 days of the patient's discharge, BUT, the patient was seen in the office, face-to-face, within 2 days post discharge, would TCM billing be allowed? Example:

Patient was discharged on 7/12/2014; discharged from inpatient hospital due to hand injury which resulted in surgery. No contact was made by the office within the 2 buisness days of discharge. Patient actually called office after discharge and scheduled appointment, as instructed by her attending physician in the hospital, and was seen on 7/14/14. Could the face-to-face visit within 2 business days of the discharge "override" the required interactive contact via phone, or email, and meet that requirement of TCM billing?

Thanks!
Beth
