Wiki Traveling as a remote coder

Hello! I'm wondering for all you coders who currently work remotely...do you have the ability or freedom to travel and take work with you? I know it might depend on who you work for, but I'm wondering what the overall consensus is as well. My situation is with my dad who's health is going down hill, and if I'll be able to travel home to help my mom and be able to take work with me as well.

I have worked from home for 8 years. My laptops have VPNs which I use whenever I am away from home and my secured internet connection. Check with your employer on what their specific requirements are.

I have worked for a few remote companies and the only requirement is having a secure internet connection. However, it's always best to check with your IT department and clear it with your manager.
