Provider trimmed bilateral ingrown toenails. Please see dictated note:

"Anesthesia with 3 ml of lidocaine without epi used to preform a digital block of the right toe. Anesthesia with 4.5ml of lidocaine without epi used to perform a digital block of the left toe. Adaquate numbness acheived. Tourniquet used to remove blood from the toe. Toe prepped with betadine in a sterile fashion. Nail spliting scissors used to cut away and a hemostat used to remove the 1/3 of the right lateral nail of the right great toe and both lateral nails of the left great toe. Tourniquet removed and normal coloration returned to the toe. Triple antibiotic ointment applied to the surgical site and covered with sterile gauze and secured. Pt tolerated the procedure well."

Any cpt code suggestions?

Hi Codingking,

Shall we use CPT 11750-TA and 11750-T5?

Thanks,
Vernon Kreiss

The intent of the procedure documented in the initial post, is to allow the nail to regrow properly. The goal was not permanent destruction. For 11750 the physician takes it one step further and uses phenol or electrocautery to destroy or permanently remove the nail matrix so the toenail never grows back (not to be confused with electrocautery to control bleeding).

The codes I mentioned in the initial response 11730 is the correct code to use for what was documented.
