Hello,

Here is my scenario:

Patient underwent surgery and there were two anesthesiologist involved. First anesthesia dr was from a group (under their tax id number) involved from 0725 to 1305.(they do their own billing)
Second anesthesia dr was from different group (under their tax id number) involved from 1305 to 1658.(this is the provider I am billing)
I am doing the billing for ONLY the second anesthesia provider. Can I submit a claim for my services and if so would I append a modifier XP to my claim?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheryl

I would submit a claim for your MD's anesthesia services without XP. It was a handoff and not a separate procedure.

In box 19, I would note :"complete anes time 0705-1658; 1st part of case w/ another anes grp"
