PT had primary Medicare last year, secondary AARP and Blue Cross. Even she retired, her employer was still paying for Blue Cross by mistake and she didn't know it. We received payment from both AARP and Blue Cross. We called Blue Cross for recoupment but we were told PT was covered and no recoupment will be done. What can we do for the overpayment?

You have done your due diligence with the insurance company, document the conversation. Post the double payment to the patient chart, make note of why the credit exists. Keep the credit, chances are, the insurance will discover their edit and want to recoup the payment. If you want to keep the accounting clean (zero balance) you can adjust the credit. You will always have the billing notes to refer back to when they do want to recoup the payment. It will trigger your memory.
