A Cataract patient came in for an exchange of an Inter-ocular Lens. The patient was also suffering from glaucoma and during the IOL exchange a Stent was placed to treat the high inter-ocular pressure caused by the glaucoma.
We had one surgeon doing the IOL exchange and had another come in to do the Stent. I am wondering if we need to code both procedures and how this type of circumstance is impacted by the Two Surgeons modifier.
Already I am looking at 66986 for the exchange with a modifier 78 since we are in the global period following the cataract extraction and insertion of the first IOL. Also I am looking at 0191T for the stent but I am unsure if the second procedure will also need the 78 or if one or both procedures need addition modifier(s) like the 62 for Two Surgeons.
Thanks!
