How do you dx code for lynch syndrome when United Healthcare will not allow the z code as the primary dx? There were no symptoms reported; pt only came in to discuss results of genetic testing, which showed Lynch syndrome. We've also tried using the family history codes as primary and get the same denial. Thank you!

Are you using one of the encounter or counseling diagnosis codes with it? The status Z codes generally cannot be used primary, but an appropriate Z code for an encounter could.

Generally the Z15 status diagnosis codes should not be used as a principal diagnosis, according to the ICD-10 guidelines:
