Hello fellow coders!
I work in abortion care so naturally, we bill an abortion to check the gestational age with 76815 or 76817.
Some of our providers are also doing intraoperative ultrasounds (76998) and then another ultrasound (76857) to be sure the uterus is empty.

This seems excessive to me. Where can I find documentation regarding which/how many ultrasounds I can bill during a procedure?

Hi, the pre-procedure ultrasound would be billable, but the post procedure is "checking their work"and they can't bill for cystoscopy, ultrasound, etc done for this purpose. The ultrasound guidance should cover the entire procedure, including making sure the uterus is empty.
