My doctor has recently started using ultrasound guidance during a planned tracheostomy. Does anyone have any suggestions on coding the ultrasound portion?
 
I would lean towards it not being billable; however, I can't find anything that says it's not. NCCI Policy Manual states that a Scope would be included, that's why I'm leaning that way. I'd contact carrier.

Respiratory System

10. If laryngoscopy is required for placement of a tracheostomy, the tracheostomy (CPT codes 31600-31610) may be reported. The laryngoscopy is not separately reportable.
