We had a patient who was scheduled to receive an injection of Depo-provera and Gardasil. The patient refused prior to receiving these injections. Since the drugs were prepared specifically for this patient, are we allowed to bill her for the unused drug(s)? Please advise and thanks!
 
Drug wastage can be billed with a JW modifier. I have never billed that when the patient was not actually injected with some of the drug but it wouldnt hurt to try. Hope this helps!
 
You can bill for the wasted drug and with First Coast they do not accept the JW modifier. The waste must be documented.
