What would be the correct CPT code for an Upper IT band injection? I am at a loss.

To decide, you have to think, what is the IT band anatomically? Then, once you know that you can look up codes for injections to that type structure.
For example, if you were talking about the knee, that is a major joint, so you would look up joint injection. The same concept applies for injections into other structures.

All he says is " Injected upper IT band in the mid-thigh at the tender area"
Okay, but did you look up what the IT band is? Do you have an anatomy book or an orthopedic coding companion book?
Your first step is to figure out what anatomical structure the IT band is to be able to look up the code for an injection into that type of structure.
