Can a PCP bill for the removal of urethral stent that patient was unable to remove at home? Removal was done without the use of a scope or insrument. My understanding is it is an E&M, not procedure code. My provider wants to use 10120 removal of foreign body. Thanks,

As far as I know, there is not code for removal of stent without a cystoscope. We always include that in our E&M.

10120 doesn't quite meet the criteria for stent removal. "Removal of a foreign body (FB) embedded beneath the epidermis of the skin is performed by making a simple incision directly above it. Forceps or a congruent instrument are used to enter the incision and remove the FB. Primary closure is common, but secondary wound healing may be used. Code 10120 for a simple procedure." The stent isn't embedded in the epidermis.
