Hello,

The med staff at out CMHC currently performs urinalysis to determine if any of 13 drugs are present. We have not billed for this previously but want to start and I just want to verify some information.

We are prepared to start using CPT 80305.QW with CLIA on file. Is that the most appropriate code for this purpose? Also, what level of experience of licensure can perform this service? We have medical assistants, licensed practicing nurses, and registered nurses that could potentially perform. Does anyone else bill this service?

Any information would be helpful as I haven't found anything via google.

Thanks,
Lisa

The facility I work at also tests for 13 different types of drugs using the cpt code 80305 - QW. We are CLIA approved and our laboratory technician who is a registered medical assistant performs the test, along with our RN and LPN. If the provider needs a specific amount of the drug that patient tested positive for, then we send the sample out to an outside laboratory.

Hope this helps.
