Wondering if anyone can help me with this. I'm brand new to urology coding and in one procedure note the urologist is documenting the collection of urine following a cystourethroscopy. The pathology report indicates a malignancy. Would the collection of urine during a cystourethrscopy be considered a biopsy? If not, is there any additional service he can bill besides 52000? He states, "rigid cystoscope was introduced into the urethra and advanced under direct vision. A sample of urine was aspirated from the bladder via the cystoscope and ssent to cytology." TIA of any input anyone can offer.
