USE OF 59 with Adjacent Tissue Transfer- ASAP

Good Morning All,

One of my surgeon performed a Adjacent Tissue Transfer 15cm Sq each side, he performed the procedure bilaterally. He wants to report 14001 X1, 14001-59x1, because of adjacent tissue transfer code be billed as separate codes (maybe right and left as well) since they are in discontiguous locations. My coding department suggested the use the codes above as well. But, I totally disagree since the Flap was performed in the same site of the Anatomical Area (trunk), which means the size should be added instead.

Please I need your response, ASAP

I would add the total together since it is the same anatomical area.

additionally - if the sites add up past 30 sq cm. say for example 30.1 then you would bypass this code and use 14301 (30.1 sq -60 sq cm)
