If a patient is deaf or does not speak english would you give credit in the MDM section C under "obtaining history from someone other than patient"?
We have had this discussion in our office and some say yes and others say no that the use of an interpreter is just a tool.
Thanks for the help!
 
You would have to check with your local carrier. Some do not give any complexity, believing that a translation is more of a tool being used and doesn't add complexity. Others (rightly, in my opinion) factor in that use of a translator does add complexity and time to the encounter, as the provider has to consider not just the answer they got, but if the patient understood the question, and if anything was lost in translation.
