Hey there! I was wondering if we might be able to use 90834 and bill for 2 units for those longer sessions. I'm not super confident this will work, but I was asked to share the idea.
No. The code is 45 minutes (38-52 mins). That would not make sense. If it is 53 or more minutes, why wouldn't you use 90837?
I would suggest reading the CPT book and guidelines at the beginning of the psychotherapy code range. The fifth paragraph explains how to code by time. Also read the time usage instructions at the beginning of the CPT book.
There is an MUE of 2 on 90834 but that is for rare circumstances where two, separate sessions may occur on the same day, not for 2 units on one line for a longer time.
