Scenario:

ER pt, passenger of rollover

Dx: head injury, abraisions to hand
radiology exams done: CT CAP, CT Head, CT Neck, xray hands
reason for exams, head injury MVA major, abraisions to hands

CT Head & hand x-rays easy.

For the other exams - V71.4 (observation following accident), then would anyone also used E816.1 MVA due to loss of control passenger

you would not use the V71.4 if the patient has symptoms such as head injury and abrasions. Look at the main heading for V71 which applies to each code in that category, it states condition not found. You have injuries to report so use those instead. But to answer the question if a patient is brought in with no injuries then yes you may use the V71.4 with the E code it will be fine.
