A patient came in to receive vaccinations after a stem cell transplant. I have found the code Z94.84 and know the Z23 code will need to be used as well. I think we can use the V94.84 as a primary code, but a co-worker disagrees. Does anyone have experience with this type of scenario?

I would list first code Z23 as this is main reason for the encounter. The post stem cell transplant status would be a secondary diagnosis that provides additional information on the need for immunization (eg, repeat immunization due to lost immunity). Hope that helps.
