My new practice physician owner blogs with other practice owners and she has seen advice about recouping the cost of vaccines and their cost of ownership ie the refrigeration costs and handling costs. Which has always been expensed but never recouped. One bit of advice she received was "charging 150 to 200 % " of the Medicare reimbursable rate. I have been over it several times and the fact that we are tied to a fee schedule and will only be reimbursed what ever our rate is seems to go nowhere. We are being reimbursed across the payers for at least the cost of the vaccines. We cannot balance bill so I am not sure why or where this advice is coming from. Anyone else having this discussion?
