Hello All,

Looking for some guidance on the legality of the following situation: A patient comes in for lab work and the physician or phlebotomist missed something on the order and the patient has to come back. Do you no charge the venipuncture when the patient comes back as a courtesy because it was our error? Does the venipuncture go on the claim with $0.00 or can you leave it off completely?

Thanks
Steph Mescher

Hi stephmescher;
Yes, I cannot speak for all other facilities, but in my facility when something goes awry (even without our fault) and our patient needs to return to our facility for a re-draw; we will only bill the lab being performed because the venipuncture was typically billed at their previous encounter and we would like to eliminate the patient's inquiry on a repeat charge.
