What should be the ICD 10 code for Ventilator Dependent Respiratory Failure. (VDRL)

not my area of expertise, but try looking at:

J95.850 - mechanical complication of respirator
OR
J95.859 - other complication of respirator (ventilator)

it looks like either of these can be reported with one of the J96**- respiratory failure codes.

hope this helps.
:)

Ventilator dependent doesn't mean that the condition was a complication of the ventilator, only that the patient requires the ventilator for support, so I wouldn't use the complication codes. If this is the only detail you have about the condition, I would code it simply as unspecified respiratory failure.

I'm glad I mentioned that this was not my area of expertise.
lol

thank you, Thomas.
that makes so much sense.

when I see questions that I don't know, I try to see if I can look up the answer in my coding books.

I don't usually respond to questions that I am not confident of the answers to, and this is why.
:/
