I need help coding a ventricular laceration repair, the patient had a CABG done.

He was then taken to ICU where he went into cardiac arrest, the physician peformed external cardiac massage, while on the way to the OR. The patient then had internal cardiac massage when the accidental ventricular laceration occurred it was 1 inch in length.

I need help with a code for this laceration repair, the patient also had to have a new bypass graft(which I have already coded). The laceration repair is what is baffling me.

Thanks,

LCTerry:)

I Am Assuming That The Pt Had To Be Put Back On Bypass Since A Graft Had To Be Repaired. I Would Look Ar 33305 WITH DX OF 997.1 HOPE THIS HELPS:)

That sounds good to me. I'm on vacation this week, but will re-read the report when I go back to work.

Yes, the patient was put back on by-pass.

The dx code I was looking at was 998.2 accidental laceration during a procedure, the cardiac massage is a procedure, but are the physicians hands considered an instrument.

Thanks again for your help!
