I have billed MOA rate for so many years that now, I'm new to the Medi-Cal world and modifiers. We just learned that all our VFCs need -SL modifier and I read on a website that Anthem (I think it was) also required an -SL modifier for state supplied vaccinces, such as VFC vaccines.

Is anyone familiar with billing -SL to commercial insurance and am I wrong to start putting -SL on all our children's vaccines since they are all VFC? Does this mean I have to put a $0.01 charge or can I bill the $9 admin fee to Medi-cal?

Do you have different fee schedules for Medi-Cal and commercial payors? Or do you charge everyone the same price and write off what Medi-Cal doesn't pay?
