Hi All,
Can we bill for Psych Visits with 99211-99214 (depends on what level of service) with 90862 if the provider prescribed any medication with Psych DX..?pls.HELP..

This reference suggests that it would be possible. However "prescribing any medication" would not automatically meet the threshold for 90862. This reference indicates that the medication management should meet several qualifications.

According to NCCI, these codes bundle. If you "score" out your E&M service, medication management is included in the medical decision making; thus, you are not likely to have the same provider reporting both codes on the same date of service.

The documentation of the service should drive the code selection. I would have to review the record in order to make a case-specific recommendation, but try to determine (with the help of the provider, perhaps) what services are the point of the patient presenting. Honestly, psychiatrists (by practice) do not normally conduct an in-depth enough service for an established patient to warrent the 99212-99215 series--but that is based on my subjective experience. Your provider may be different.
