Our office currently bills for 87210 (x1) when a wet mount with KOH is performed in the office. We currently do not add any modifiers other than QW.
It was recently brought to our attention that we "should" be billing 87210 x2. Our main Insurance person states she was never advised of this before now, and has never billed twice.
My question is: Does anyone bill a wet mount this way considering there are 2 interpretations? Should we be billing it x2 or with a modifier? The test is performed in one sample, but interpreted twice. Once when Saline is added and a second time when KOH is added. TIA!
