If a surgeon is ablating a polyp with a snare, would you code the instrument used which is the snare or the ablation? I have been researching this and have found conflicting information.

Where I am confused is that I have read that even if the polyp is ablated, you code the snare since that was the instrument used. Have you seen any publications or bulletins regarding this?

45383 with colonoscopy

45339 with sigmoidoscopy

45320 with proctosigmoidoscopy

Would these codes be used since the code descriptions are "...not amenable to removal by hot biopsy forceps, bipolar cautery or snare technique."?

Thanks,
J
