What Dx Code to use when "specimen doesn't survive processing"
I work at a dermatopathology lab and we have a specimen that only received a gross exam (CPT 88300) because the specimen didn't survive processing. What ICD-9 would I use since the stated diagnosis on the report is "No Diagnosis, specimen did not survive processing".

Thanks,
Jen B

Search in refering provider file, u will get symptoms or reason for the encounter which prompted for the test. If u have no such file then querry referring provider.
