From my understanding, which is based off of .gov sites like AHIMA, CMS, HIPAA, AAPC, etc., outpatient coders won't have to learn ICD-10-PCS because it is only used in hospitals for inpatient coding. How come there are questions based on PCS coding on the CCA exam, and therefore, how would an outpatient coder know when to use a PCS code when it comes to real life cases?

Some hospitals require their people code in PCS as well as CPT for internal purposes even though its not required. To me it seems like a waste of time to code in 2 different systems when you don't need to.
