I am not CPC certified, but with difficulty finding coding employment even with certification, has anyone tried to take the medical billing course to help with finding employment just to get foot in the door? Thanks.
Any job in the medical profession can be a foot in the door position. Look for jobs in patient registration, accounts receivable, payment posting, etc. All of those can help open doors to coding opportunities.
I am taking the CPB online class. Are there any suggestions/guidance for taking the online test before the certification and of course, any guidance for taking the certification test itself? Hi Rajinder,Hi Myra,
I am both CPC (Certified Professional Coder) + CPB (Certified Professional Biller). If you require any help in terms of billing certification, training, or any other information, please feel free to contact me. I would be more than happy to assist you.

I encourage anyone interested in the CPB course to take a look at job descriptions in your area to see if that is a required or even recommended certification for billing or coding positions. I have only seen one job interested in that certification in all of my searches. I don't think many employers know that it exists.
Hi Rajinder,
I posted the original question in this thread; do you think obtaining a CPB would help open doors in the medical field? I have taken an online medical coding course but the CPT coding portion of it was poorly done, I felt. Too simplistic, very few, if any, rationales given for why one answer over another. I am attempting to study for the cert exam but am just about ready to chuck it all and take AAPC's CPC training course. But I also realize most people have to start just about anywhere in the medical field to get foot in the door (hoping to code eventually). Also, is the AAPC CPB course well-done, does it explain things, and do the
instructors get back with you in a timely manner (assuming you took AAPC's course)? Thanks so much for your time and advice.
Rajinder - I think you misread my post. I did not say that it is useless only that the original poster should check to see if that credential is sought after in his/ her area. In my experience the CPB credential is not one that I have seen as a desired certification in the 10 years that I have been in the field because most employers are not familiar with it. I recommended the CPB course several times to my own supervisor as a training tool for several new hires in my department because I thought it was a valuable resource but she did not. Again, despite my best efforts, outside of the CPC certification she is not interested in anything else. I think it would be worth it for AAPC to market this credential more than they do.
I am taking the online course for the CPB. But I am not finding any of this information in the 3 required books that your allow to have in the exam. I looked on the AAPC website for the break down listing of the questions and still there are sections of the exam I would assume you will need to memorize as it is not in any of the books only the class materials. Any helpful tools for the exam would be appreciated.

Hello, I’ve taken a medical billing course at my local community college prior to taking the CPC exam. I got a medical billing position right after i passed the medical billing program. I’ve been working as a medical biller for over a year at a local hospital. I recommend you apply directly with the Hospital and medical offices. Always call HR to confirm they received your resume. It is difficult finding a coder position. Employers are looking for experience. But keep applying!I am not CPC certified, but with difficulty finding coding employment even with certification, has anyone tried to take the medical billing course to help with finding employment just to get foot in the door? Thanks.
