doctor does the subacromial decompression, and then debrides a bone spur off the acromion.

Impingement is documented.

So do you think that the doc meet the qualifications for a 29826?

Thoughts?

29826 documentation

have you read the AAPC newsletter, Healthcare Business Monthly August 2016? there is an article "orthopedic Denials" and it gives a good suggestions for what is needed to document the SAD. if it was me, I'd use that article and query the doc for more info. hope that helps.

Removing the "Spur" (or Exostosis, same thing) from the Acromion is a part of an "Acromioplasty," which is included in the Descriptor for 29826. So yes, this is what your physician did.

Respectfully submitted, Alan Pechacek, M.D.
