Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for help/guidance/information regarding global billing for Xrays. I've tried to do my research and, like so many things, it's hard to find a definitive answer.

The situation is:
- PA medical group has an xray machine on site.
- They are taking xrays.
- They have a contract with an outside radiology company whereas they pay them a fee to interpret the xrays.
- The outside radiology company is not billing insurance for the professional component.

Can the practice seeing the patient and taking the xrays bill the xray as global? Can anyone point me to guidelines/policies?

Thank you!
Tracey

For Medicare, it depends on whether the radiologists are located in the same payment locality. If they are, you can bill globally. If not, the professional component needs to be billed under the radiologist, using the address for the location of the radiologist when they finalize their report. See Medicare's Claims Processing Manual (100-04) Chapter 13, Section 150. Here is a link for an excellent article on the topic.
