In a Medical Practice Coding Pro article there is a scenerio as mentioned below....
"If you screen a patient who has recently traveled to a region where Zika is prevalent, such as south america, opt for encounter code is Z11.59. "
I have a doubt,:confused: why can't we use Z20.828 Contact with and (suspected) exposure to other viral communicable diseases for this case instead of Z11.59 .
If any one make me clear on this,that would be grateful..
 
Z11.59 is for a screening encounter for the disease; Z20.828 is just to indicate contact with or exposure to. If you re-read the sentence, it'll make sense. I suppose you could use the expose code in addition, but that wouldn't be the reason for the encounter.
