Summary

The provider examines the tissue inside the knee joint with an arthroscope to identify intact osteochondritis dissecans lesions, those for which the cartilage is cracked but not yet separated from the bone. She drills the damaged cartilage to encourage growth of healthy tissue. She inserts screws to secure the cartilage to the underlying bone. The procedure relieves pain and improves mobility in the joint.
