Code 80220 describes a therapeutic drug assay to quantify the level of the prescribed medication, hydroxychloroquine, in the patient specimen, such as serum. A common lab method for this test is liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS). Hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial drug used to treat or prevent malaria infection, and clinicians may also prescribe it to treat rheumatoid arthritis or other autoimmune conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus.
