I was wondering what a day is like for this particular type of coder... I have never heard of it before ( but that doesn't mean much)...

I have been an e/m coder for the past 10 1/2 years and from what I can gather from the interview I was in that you'd be auditing the med's given to what was ordered or in the pt chart... and be responsible for the pharmacy billing...

It's just interesting to see how "coding" can differ from every venue... I guess I always assumed that a coder had to work in a physicians office, maybe that's how it was traditionally was way back when but it's evolved so much and there are so many routes you can go with your career. I am quite frankly tired of the e/m road I've been on and want to venture out there to see what else is there, I know some coders work in differant places besides hospitals, clinics , insurance companies and physician practices...

I'd like to hear from other coders what you do....

If you'd like to share...

Thanks,

Hi, Roxanne!

I work for a large TPA in Nashville, TN. We have acute care/family prcatice and occupational health sites in 32 states. The billing is all done from our location. I am the coding auditor. I am responsibel for all of the auditing at all sites. I also provide coding education to the sites daily. I provide coding education to our billing department on a weekly basis. I am a very busy person as you can see. Thanks.:)
