If an established patient is presenting for a preoperative visit for surgery clearance, would you assign any points under Number of Diagnoses section for diagnosis code Z01.818-Encounter for other preprocedural examination, in addition to the medical diagnoses?

In my opinion, I would not give credit for this.

I very rarely (if ever) give credit for any Z-codes, as I typically view these as a status code rather than a diagnosis.

I would give credit for whichever diagnosis they have that is causing them to have surgery.
