Hello,

I am not strong in cardio :). I am trying understand what constitutes the use of this code. If patient has ASHD, Arteriosclerosis, Cardiomyopathy with hypertension I am thinking that it is possible these can be tied in to the I11.9 if no heart failure. Can they? or not?

Do you have any guidance? Cardio is not my strong point :).

Hypertension with heart disease

Effective 10/1/16, Coding Guidelines for ICD10 Chapter 9 state that there is an assumed link between hypertensive and heart disease/heart failure (for codes in the I50. or I51.4-I51.9) as long as the documentation does not state that the heart disease/heart failure is NOT associated with the hypertension. ASHD, arteriosclerosis and cardiomyopathy codes do not fall into these code categories so they cannot be assumed as linked but can be coded as due to hypertension if so stated in the documentation.

I am in confusion what ICD 10 code need to be assigned for HTN and Cardio Vascular disease

Index is leading

Disease
- cardiovascular-I25.10
As per 2017 ICD 10 Coding Updates codes are range of I50.-I51.9 we can assume causal relationship

do we need to take a combination?
