Hello,

I am having a problem with getting Status Post Claims Paid.

Patient had B/L TKA out of Global Period and had a follow up with same doctor who did the surgery, so I coded Z09, z96.651, Z96.652, 99213

The Insurance Company is denying saying they want a better diagnosis code.

The Patient is not having any issues, no pain and the doctor put for the Assessment: Status Post B/L Total Knees.

So I am confuse on how it should of been coded.

Replacement knee joints

I would suggest coding from the musculoskeletal system. Code your follow up Z09 first then the appropriate code for why the sx was done (degenerative joint, etc), then follow with the codes for the presence of the artificial joint.

This may help explain why there was a follow up better
