Hello, sorry if i posted this to the wrong forum.... i wasn't sure where to put it and i've never posted before but i really need help understanding what to do in this situation.....

So for one of my classes we were asked to code: Agranulocytosis due to clozapine (taken as prescribed)

which is D70.2 & T43.595A..... BUT finding the adverse effect code had to be done much differently.... not by choice.

So I have ICD-10-CM 2025 AAPC, Expert Edition....

I went to the Table of Drugs/Chem.... I find clozapine...T42.4X5... (which i know personally isn't a benzo but has seen it be mistaken for clonazepam before by those unknowing)...
okay great...
I go to the tabular and it says.... Poisoning by, Adverse Effect of, underusing of BENZODIAZEPINES....?????
so I double check....
then I triple check....
I even went out of my way to find clonazepam and they're the SAME CODING.
So now I think I'm going crazy.... so i google clozapine to double check its drug class... it's considered an atypical antipsychotic.....
So when medical coding using ICD-10-CM it's under the other antipsychotics and neuroleptics.... so i just went page by page(starting from the page it mislead me to) looking for that description and luckily it was close. (another google search)

ANYWAYS, what do we do in this situation? just write it in (the book) and let everyone know? because i assume theres hundreds printed just like mine.....

thanks guys for reading.... and commenting, if you do!

It's not a book misprint.

That's how the authoritative sources for ICD-10-CM (CDC and CMS) list it in the Table of Drugs and Chemicals as well:

Here's now to find it on the CMS website: https://www.cms.gov/medicare/coding-billing/icd-10-codes

It's not for me to say whether or not that SHOULD be the code, as I haven't researched the rationale for placing it there.

However, Clozapine definitely has been assigned to that Adverse Effect code back to the beginning of ICD-10-CM in 2015.

I don’t understand though…. When I googled to verify it says benzodiazepines… so how would I know if it’s right or wrong if it’s not even the correct drug class?
