Help - I am having a conflict with my compliance department. The red dot in the 2010 ICD-9 book indicates "Use Additional Digits". I have always understood this to mean the additional digits (whether 4th or 5th) must be used. V72.6 (Laboratory examination) has 5 new 5th digits this year. Doesn't this mean that V72.6 can no longer be used as a stand alone diagnosis code?
